Amethyst is the purple variety of quartz, coloured by iron and natural irradiation. Ours sits in the lighter lilac range, often called Rose de France, with visible colour zoning and small natural inclusions, which are the markers of a natural stone rather than a synthetic one.

Every stone is natural, so yours won't look exactly like the photo. Slight differences in colour, veining and inclusions are part of it, that's how you know it came out of the ground and not a mould :)
